How do I send money to Taiwan?
You can send TWD to any bank account in Taiwan, up to 499,999 TWD per transfer. The first time your recipient gets money from you, they have to register the transfer with their bank before it can be paid in. If they bank with KGI Bank, they can register in the KGI Bank app and usually get the money the same business day. With any other bank, they may need to visit a branch to fill in a form. After that, the money usually arrives the next business day.
At a glance
| Currency | TWD |
| Limit | Up to 499,999 TWD per transfer |
| KGI Bank accounts | Same business day |
| All other Taiwan banks | Next business day |
| Cut-off | 3:30pm Taiwan time (GMT+8), Monday–Friday, except Taiwan bank holidays |
If a transfer reaches the bank after 3:30pm Taiwan time, it’s paid the next business day.
Before you send
- Check your recipient’s full name. It must match their bank account exactly.
- Check their email address and mobile number. Their bank uses these to contact them about registering, so a wrong detail delays the transfer.
- Tell your recipient the transfer is coming and that their bank will be in touch.
What your recipient needs to do the first time
If they bank with KGI Bank
- Look out for an email and an app notification from KGI Bank.
- Open the KGI Bank app.
- Enter their personal details.
- Choose the purpose of the transfer.
- Confirm.
KGI Bank may also call your recipient to check the purpose of the transfer. Once they’ve confirmed, the money is paid into their account between 9:00am and 4:00pm Taiwan time on a business day.
If they bank with any other bank
- Wait for a call from their bank.
- Visit a branch of their bank.
- Fill in the transfer form. The bank may call it a “remittance form.” It asks for their personal details and the purpose of the transfer.
- Tick the box agreeing to automatic crediting. This means future transfers from you are paid in without another branch visit.
Their bank then sends the form to KGI Bank, Xe’s partner bank in Taiwan, and the money is paid in.
Future transfers
After the first transfer, money is paid in automatically if all three of these stay the same:
- The sender (you)
- Your recipient’s bank account
- The purpose of the transfer
If any of them change, your recipient has to register again. To keep things simple, send to the same account for the same purpose each time.
